And while Netflix hasn’t clarified this, it’s likely that streaming quality will be limited to SD resolution, the same as the entry-level paid plan. The free tier is limited to Android users.
In its announcement, Netflix stated that it hoped free-tier users would “love Netflix so much that, over time, they’d upgrade to a full, paid subscription.” Users won’t need to submit payment details, but they will need to share their email addresses when registering. In what appears to be an effort to tap into the African streaming market’s immense future potential, Netflix recently rolled out an Android mobile plan that offers free access to roughly a quarter of its catalog to Kenyan users.
